Johann Fichte in, The Vocation of Man, talks about how there is a separation between man and nature. He claims that everyone has a consciousness but not a "consciousness of things, but only of consciousness of a consciousness of things" (40). I believe Fichte is saying that we know of objects from experience, however we don't know all objects. The objects we do not know we use our consciousness of things to figure out what an object is. We have an idea about objects but no certain explanation or definition. Color, texture, shape, and size all influence our consciousness.
Fichte also claims that "thinking occurs spontaneously, to distinguish it form sensation" (42). We are limited by our own inner self and believe that there are objects outside ourselves but can't prove it.
